Wrentit
Chamaea fasciata
This definitive chaparral bird is heard and seen most easily at the topmost part of campus where the chaparral grows best; but they’ve also been known to venture into the heart of campus itself. Listen for their rapid “bouncing ball” song as they sing out one to another across the landscape. If you see a brown, yellow-eyed bird with a long-flicking tail in a shrub, that looks like a large wren, it’s a wrentit.
