Hemphill's Westernslug
Hesperarion hemphilli

This small black slug is the only native slug found on campus. A cousin of the banana slug, this slug also prefers damp areas near creeks. It can be distinguished from introduced slugs by its jet black body with a distinctly white foot/skirt. The black and white stripes on the side of the foot/skirt are diagnostic. Hemphill's westernslug is endemic to the coastal region of Central and Southern California.
