American Kestrel
Falco sparverius
This colorful little falcon can be seen fluttering in place and then diving swiftly after prey on the ground. Unless you catch one looking out from a high perch, chances are you’ll notice them most easily in the Spring when they are chasing off the much larger red-tailed hawk, scolding it with their rapid anxious call.
